A delegation headed by the Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Hon. Abdoulie Jobe, and accompanied by the Managing Director, GNPC, Deputy Director General, Petroleum Commission, Ms Kanni Touray, Managing Director, NAWEC and other technical support staff of these institutions participated in the recently concluded Africa Energy Week 2023 (AEW) held in Cape Town, South Africa from the 16th to the 20th of October 2023.
The aim of the delegation’s participation at the AEW was to promote the investment opportunities available in the energy sector of The Gambia. The Gambia was promoted through various means including an exhibition booth, a dedicated ‘Invest in Gambian Energies session’ spotlighting the energy sector and investment opportunities in The Gambia and other panel discussions that gave a chance to further highlight the Gambia’s upstream potential.
The Petroleum Commission (PC) delved into the below ground opportunities including the available seismic data and extensive studies done on these blocks. The PC further discussed the five wells drilled in the Gambia; two onshore and three offshore which has provided a comprehensive understanding of the geological system particularly the offshore oil block A2 where the Jammah, Samo and Bambo wells were drilled. The PC informed the gathering that these wells proved that the Gambian oil blocks have a working petroleum system.
