About Us

Our Story

The Petroleum Commission of The Gambia was established by the Petroleum Commission Act, 2021 as the Regulatory Body for Upstream and Midstream Petroleum activities. Its main objectives include regulating petroleum activities, managing petroleum resources, ensuring compliance with laws, policies and regulations and Promoting Local Content for sustainable national development.

Prior to its establishment as a Body Corporate, the Commission operated as a unit, since its creation in 1992, performing similar roles, under the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (2016 to-July 2021), Ministry of Petroleum (2008-2016), Office of the President (2003-2008), Ministry of Trade, Industry and Employment (1992-2003).
