The Petroleum Commission on Tuesday 28th November 2023 inaugurated a Committee called the ‘Petroleum Commission Consultative Committee’ (PCCC).
The PCCC was constituted pursuant to section 5(g)(i) of the Petroleum Commission Act, 2021 to support the Commission in the execution of it’s mandates. It comprises of units of Government ministries, departments, and agencies, who has regulatory and policy responsibilities that interacts with Petroleum Sector governance.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Petroleum, Finance and Justice, as well as a host of other State Institutions such as GIEPA, Geological Department, GNPC, NEA etc.
In opening the meeting, the Permanent Secretary Ms Amie Njie called upon members to support the work of the Commission, given the Commission’s policy advisory mandate. She also assured the Commission of the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy’s unflinching support.
Giving an overview of the expected role of the Commission, the Director General Mr. Jerreh Barrow, underscored the importance of collaboration between state institutions during the formulatory stages of agreements , policies and laws for upstream operations. He noted that, while the work of the Petroleum Commission maybe abstract at this initial stages of exploration, the stakes and consequences of the policy decisions made now could be far-reaching.
The meeting ended with the constitution of four committees.
